About
Modulo Errors is my mathematical ‘blog; this is not a completely daft thing to have since I’m a postgraduate mathematics student at the University of Edinburgh. My studies are in Number Theory under the supervision of Chris Smyth. Some of the things I think about include: matrices with constrained eigenvalues; elliptic divisibility sequences and elliptic nets; elliptic curve points of small height; elliptic curve cryptography. My work tends to be of a computational nature; I use the SAGE computer algebra system and, for large tasks, the Eddie server cluster.
Many of the earlier entries in this blog come with cryptic tags of the form MAxxxxx or CMxxxxx; these are course codes from the University of Bath, where I completed my undergradute studies. There are also some course codes from the University of Edinburgh appearing, attached to posts related to material I’m tutoring.
Further, many entries are in turn simply short pointers towards writeups I submitted to Everything2; I’ve also supplied them here as LaTeX formatted PDFs. There are several years of this stuff which have been imported from earlier incarnations of the site, so there may well be broken links- do let me know if you find any.
I intend not to write here about the minutiae of postgrad life. Instead, I hope to keep this for more polished writings and resources, aimed at a variety of mathematical audiences- from highly technical research posts to ‘popular mathematics’ content. You can generally expect new entries to be connected to number theory in some way, although I’m easily sidetracked by many topics!
This blog is a subsection of the Straylight domain; this allows me to isolate the mathematics from everything else. For email, use graeme at this domain.
